Scale & Plastic Colours of War Review

Filla-Glu Coloured adhesives

Filla-Glu Coloured adhesives.

One of Filla-Glu’s big sellers is the Black CA, almost like a ‘signature product’, and having used it myself, I know how good it is to have a visible CA in order to ensure you get a complete seam when joining model parts together. It makes things so much easier when you hit the sanding block.

Today I have some of Filla-Glu’s other colour CA, including a sample of one of their forthcoming colours (Battleship Grey), and these are the Low Viscosity variety I shall be playing with. Again, these can be bought in High, Medium and Low viscosities.

I am not aware that these adhesives include Filla-Glu’s rubberised CA recipe, but with what you can do with adhesives, that really isn’t an issue.

Having attempted to glue several differing materials together, no issues were found regarding strength or setting times (a second or so being the norm). The materials I attempted to glue together included glass, brass, copper, plastic, polythene, rubber and stone (marble). The only material which took a few seconds longer to fully cure was the marble, but as that was clammy and powdery, I can see the reasons. All of the joints created were strong and could not be pulled apart, no matter what.

On glass, it was shown that these adhesives gave off a bloom over a space of time, but it was quite low in relation to other CA’s I’ve used such as Zap, Loctite etc.

Sanding qualities of these CA’s are also very good once cured, although I would suggest any ridge on a plastic joint be sanded down mostly before the CA is 100% cured, but still seemingly dry, i.e. don’t leave the CA several hours after application before removing excess amounts.

Using a couple of glass slips with a drop of Yellow, it can be seen how this form of encapsulation can create a tinting effect, and if you mix together some of the primary colours, you may also mix your own specific shade; i.e. yellow + blue = green. I have included a shot of this and one of the colours running into one another to see the possibilities that the colours offer.

As well as my bog-standard tests, I am told that these CA’s are idea for the following:

Can be used for:

  • coloured encapsulating sealers, colour coatings
  • Colour matching glue lines
  • Fillers
  • Visual effects
  • Coloured liquid plastics
  • Coloured fillets / welds, when face to face bonding is not practical or possible, adding welded strength
  • Minute, small detailing when adding colours
  • Scenery, effects, coloured layers
  • Potting, filling
  • Repair scratches, dents, fill holes
  • Plastic illuminations
  • Creating colour textures, mixing colours
  • Creating and achieving different finishes & looks using liquid coloured plastic

So what do we think?

Again, these are excellent adhesives, ideal for modelling and many more applications. This product, like all of Filla-Glu’s range, are fully supported by the extensive knowledge base of the company. I have had questions to ask in the past, and I always get an answer to any technical query. An all round great product from a supportive company.

Overall 10/10

Many thanks to Filla-Glu for the samples used for this review.
